When You Wake Up Feeling Like You Were Jumped in Your Sleep: A Soul Doula’s Take on Psychic Residue and Collective Grief

You ever wake up and feel like you’ve been in a street fight you don’t remember agreeing to?
Your body hurts.
Your heart is heavy.
Your mind is foggy—like it ran a marathon in another realm.
You didn’t drink. You weren’t up late. You did everything right.
And yet… you wake up feeling wrecked.

This is more common than you think—and it’s not “just stress.”
Sometimes, this is what happens when:
You’ve been under psychic attack (yes, it’s real—and often subtle)
You’re unknowingly carrying emotions that don’t belong to you
You’ve taken on the unprocessed grief of a friend, family member, or the collective
Your sleep state is wide open, leaving your energy field unguarded
You’ve agreed—consciously or not—to hold space for pain that’s not yours to heal
For those of us wired as healers, empaths, or even Sin Eaters of the Modern World, this happens more than we care to admit. We were trained—by trauma, by lineage, by spirit—to process pain for others. We do it in our waking life. We do it in our sleep.
And the cost is enormous.
If you're waking up from "rest" more exhausted than you were before bed, your soul is waving a white flag. You’re not broken. But you are overloaded, overexposed, and under-protected.
Here’s What You Can Do:
🛑 Stop carrying what isn’t yours.
Say out loud: “If it’s not mine, I release it.” This isn’t woo—this is energetic hygiene. Boundaries don’t stop at your skin.
🛁 Take a salt bath or spiritual shower.
You don’t need a ritual—water + intention clears a lot. Say: “Cleanse me of what is not mine.”
🧿 Call your energy home.
Say: “I call back all of my energy from every timeline, interaction, and realm—with love, clarity, and consent.”
🧘♀️ Ground before bed. Protect before sleep.
Visualize zipping up your energy. Picture golden light forming a shield. Ask your ancestors or guides to stand guard.
📿 Create rituals that close the energetic doors at night.
We lock our houses. We password protect our accounts. Why wouldn’t we guard our soul spaces?
You are not here to be a landfill for other people’s pain.
You are not required to bleed in your sleep for a world that won't hold itself accountable.
You are here to heal—but not to hemorrhage.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re fighting battles in your sleep, you’re not imagining it.
The world is heavy. The collective is grieving.
But you don’t have to hold it all to help.
Reclaim your rest. Protect your light. Clean your field.
It’s not selfish—it’s sacred.
